Born and raised in Hacienda Heights, CA, I was recruited out of high school and granted a full athletic scholarship to Stanford University for football. Following graduation from Stanford in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology, I went on to the University of California, Irvine, and did medical research in immunology, acquiring technical experience in microvascular surgery. In 1983 I moved to San Francisco and attended the California College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating with Honors in 1987. Next came completion of my Residency in Podiatric Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, which included serving as Chief Resident.
Following residency, I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1989 as a Podiatric Surgeon in the Department of Orthopedics. Subsequently, I have been the Director of the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program since 1991. I have published articles in medical journals and medical textbooks, as well as serve as a state license examiner for the California Board of Podiatric Medicine. Additionally, I am a diplomat of the Board of Podiatric Surgery, a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the California Podiatric Medical Association.
Happily married since 1986, my wife Becky and I have three wonderful children; they are our greatest source of enjoyment. I enjoy outdoor activities, especially golf, basketball, running, and biking. When not outdoors, I also enjoy the craft of woodworking.
