Silicone Sheeting

Topical silicone helps minimize scars during the healing process. We did not understand the mechanism. Nevertheless, it seems to keep scars flat or flatter, and speed the maturation process. In other words, the pinkness seems to go away sooner. Topical silicone is available either in sheets, or as the gel. The sheets are prepared by some manufacturers with a cloth backing to keep the silicone from adhering to the overlying clothing. The different forms are available over-the-counter at local pharmacies in including our over-the-counter pharmacy. There are also available on the Internet. Here are some examples and references.
