Preoperative Evaluation

Besides, seeing your ophthalmologist, you will have two other eye appointments before your surgery.

Biometry

A biometry appointment will be scheduled approximately one month before your surgery. You will receive this appointment in the mail. The purpose of this appointment is to calculate the lens power of your eye, so the appropriate intraocular lens can be selected for your surgery. (If you have had lens implant surgery in your other eye recently, you may not need this appointment). Your pupils will not be dilated, and the measurement is painless. This appointment is at 1635 Divisadero Street, on the 4th floor.

Physical Examination

Before your surgery, you will need to have a physical exam to make sure that any preexisting medical problems are controlled and that it is safe for you to have cataract surgery. This exam is done by the Anesthesia Department and is usually scheduled about one week before your surgery. The Presurgery Center will contact you to set this appointment. The appointment is at the Presurgery Center located at 4131 Geary Boulevard (between 5th and 6th Avenue), Basement Level or at 2425 Geary Boulevard.
