Comprehensive Clinical Consultation
To schedule a preoperative evaluation, please e-mail Emily, our Laser Vision Coordinator, at emily.k.leung@kp.org or call us at 415.833.2763
The primary goal of this evaluation is to determine whether you are a candidate for Laser Vision Correction, and if so, which procedure is the most appropriate. During your evaluation, your eyes will be dilated and examined thoroughly to ensure they are healthy.
A corneal topography machine will be used to determine the contour of the surface of the cornea. In addition, the thickness of your cornea will be measured with an instrument called a pachymeter. When the maps are complete, you will have the opportunity to review the topography results and speak with the refractive surgeon to discuss your individual situation.
An equally important objective of the consultation is to educate you regarding all aspects of Laser Vision Correction. The consultation process will help you understand what you can reasonably expect from the procedure.
If you wear contact lenses, you need to be out of them for a period of time before your consultation. If you wear soft contact lenses, you need to stop wearing the lenses one week before your evaluation. If you wear soft toric lenses (lenses that correct astigmatism), you need to stop wearing the lenses 10-14 days before your evaluation. If you wear rigid gas permeable lenses, you need to stop wearing the lenses at least one month before your evaluation.
