AIDS/HIV Nightline (San Francisco Suicide Prevention)

Providing telephone intervention to people experiencing suicidal crisis, the focus of the agency has gradually shifted from strictly suicide prevention to more general counseling services. Services are provided 24 hours a day by over 150 trained volunteers with the supervision of a small multidisciplinary staff.

Genard AIDS Foundation

The Genard AIDS Foundation provides resident hospice and home attendant care at no-charge to People Living With Aids (PLWA'S) in Contra Costa County. Wilderness adventures for people with AIDS. Offers low cost trips specifically for people with HIV and AIDS.

Hospice by the Bay

A nonprofit, freestanding agency that provides hospice care in San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Hospice by the Bay is a Medicare, MediCal certified agency, and is JCAHO accredited.

Immune Enhancement Project

Provides improved quality of life in the community by offering high quality affordable Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments and education to individuals living with disabling conditions. These conditions include immune system disorders such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, hepatitis, and arthritis. They may also include psychosocial disabling disorders such as substance abuse, emotional distress, grief, depression, anxiety, and stress.

New Leaf: Services For Our Community A nonprofit multi-purpose counseling center for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. Fees are set on a sliding scale based on income, and some services are free. Many of our programs also accept Med-Cal, private and group insurance.

Public Health Service's Veteran's Administration Strategic Health Care Group’s AIDS Information Newsletter

A service of the Veterans Health Administration, this newsletter has an overview of HIV disease and information about HIV testing, understanding lab tests, opportunistic infections, medicines, federal and State drug-assistance programs (ADAP), and clinical trials and research, among other topics.

Parachute Fund

Provides emergency financial support to members of the Bay Area dance community facing the free-fall of AIDS or other life-threatening illnesses.

PAWS: Pets Are Wonderful Support

A volunteer-based organization that helps improve the quality of life for persons with AIDS and other disabling illnesses by offering the emotional and practical support to keep the love and companionship of their pets, and by providing information on the benefits and risks of animal companionship.

Positive Resource Center

Assists people affected by HIV/AIDS through culturally appropriate counseling, education, and advocacy in making informed choices which maximize available benefits and employment opportunities.

AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Information from the AIDS Treatment Data Network

State-by-state information about AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAP), which provide access to HIV/AIDS medicines to those who meet medical and financial eligibility criteria. CATIE (Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange)

Black Coalition on AIDS

The mission of the Black Coalition on AIDS is to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Black community through education, service, and advocacy. BCA promotes collective, comprehensive, and compassionate care for those infected with, and affected by, the disease.

Dolores Street Community Services

Academy of Friends

Founded in 1980 by Kile Ozier as a small, private Oscar Night party. Over subsequent years, the party became an HIV/AIDS fundraiser, a reaction to the toll HIV was taking on the local community. Today, it is one of the largest contributors to Bay Area HIV/AIDS service organizations, distributing in excess of 4 million dollars over two decades. Through the generosity of individual Underwriters, gala ticket buyers and an illustrious collection of corporate donors, Academy of Friends is able to continue to support the vital work of organizations providing critical services to those living with HIV and AIDS.

DIFFA: Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS

Presently observing its 20th year as one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education programs in the U.S. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities to provide over $31 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nationwide.

Legacy Oral History Project - Living/Dying Project

During the last decade of the twentieth century, the American concert dance community has been often reminded of the ephemeral nature of its art form. In addition to the passing of a first generation of modern dance pioneers and other elders, we have also lost younger artists in mid-career to the devastation of AIDS. To counter these losses, a growing national trend developed toward preserving our heritage through enhanced documentation and preservation activities.

National AIDS Memorial Grove

The National AIDS Memorial Grove is a living tribute to all whose lives have been touched by AIDS. Our mission is to provide a healing sanctuary, to increase awareness of this national treasure, and to promote learning and understanding of the human tragedy of the AIDS pandemic.

Under One Roof

Founded in 1990 as a small retail shop, the proceeds from which are given to local AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs). It is a collaborative effort run primarily by volunteers—-behind the scenes and on the floor. A growing group of generous corporate partners continues to support our efforts, and vendors’ donations and discounts have increased exponentially. Under One Roof has raised and distributed more than $9.4 million for ASOs. Thanks wholly to the collaborative effort of friends—-corporate, vendor and individual—-Under One Roof rededicated itself to raising and distributing unrestricted funding for the fight against AIDS, and in 1999 relocated under a new, larger roof at 549 Castro Street.
