At your consultation you should have received a hand-out detailing the definition, risks and benefits, and pre-operative planning for your upcoming surgery
These handouts should be thoroughly reviewed before your scheduled surgery. You will be asked to sign an informed consent prior to your procedure stating that you are familiar with the following information.

Most Oculoplastic Surgery requires that you avoid any medication that might thin your blood for TWO WEEKS prior to surgery. Review the latest list of medications that can thin your blood: Medications to Avoid
Laboratory Studies
1. Urine Pregnacy or Blood Serum Pregnancy
All female patients between the ages of 12 and 65 years must have a pregnancy test within 24 hours of surgery unless they can provide documentation of sterility.
2. EKG
Required for all patients over the age of 60 years of age. An EKG may be required for patients under the age of 60 if they have a cardiac history or if they have a diagnosis of diabetes. EKG must be dated within 30 days of surgery.
3. Complete Blood Count
Required for all surgical patients within 30 days of surgery.
4. Serum Electrolytes
Required for all patients on diuretics or other medications that can affect serum electrolytes. Electrolyte levels should be obtained within 30 days of surgery.
