My Biography

I was born at the Kaiser-Permanente hospital on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California and have been a member of Kaiser-Permanente for just about my entire life. I joined the Department of Dermatology at the San Francisco Medical Center in 1993. I am grateful for the collaborative atmosphere in our department. My colleagues and our wonderful support staff strive to make each patient’s visit the best they’ve ever had to a doctor’s office. I think our department provides the very best dermatologic care in the Northern California! I have served as Chief of our department since 1997. Click here to learn more about the Dermatology Department.

I enjoy caring for people of all ages. As a physician trained in both Pediatrics and Dermatology, many Pediatricians and Dermatologists refer their young patients to me. I also participate in our Cosmetic Dermatology Program. The program provides a wide variety of services, everything from Botox and laser treatments to the removal of harmless skin growths. At the 2238 Geary Medical Office Building, a consulting dermatologist is often available to assist your primary care physician, should the need arise.

When I’m away from the office I enjoy spending time with my wife and two sons, playing guitar, cooking, and maintaining a regular spiritual practice. I also enjoy reading (three of my all-time favorites are One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Brothers Karamazov, and Midnight's Children) and listening to music (anything by Elton John and Joan Armatrading will do). I play tennis as part of a community league.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
