How I Got Here:
I was born and raised in the city of San Francisco. While growing up in the city, I fostered my love of athletics. I played most sports including baseball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I also began my tortuous journey in following my favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants. I held various jobs including working in the planetarium at the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park and coaching elementary school basketball.
I went off to college at the University of California at San Diego. I majored in biochemistry and cell biology. After college I returned to San Francisco where I was a preschool teacher (I taught the ages of 1 ½ to 3 years old). As a preschool teacher, I soon realized it was inevitable that I would become a pediatrician.
I went to medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. While in medical school I continued with my love of athletics and was on the crew (rowing) team. I also continued playing volleyball. I also got to experience actual winter in upstate New York (quite a change for this California boy). Upon graduation I received two special awards from my school of which I am very proud: I was awarded the Pediatric Faculty Prize for “having the greatest potential to be an outstanding pediatrician.” I also received the Neil Hellman Prize for “demonstrating outstanding sensitivity and commitment to humanistic values in dealing with patients.”
I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1998 after finishing my residency at the UC Davis Medical Center. I am a pediatric fellow for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In 2006 I was honored to co-chair the health section in the Sacramento County’s Children’s Report Card. This is a document produced every 2 years which explores how Sacramento County is providing for its children. It looks into many different subjects concerning Sacramento's children such as health care access, school dropout rates, drug use, local obesity, etc.. It is a long document (88 pages), but worth checking out (just click on the link: 2006 Sacramento Report Card) I am currently working on the 2008 version.
My Health Care Practice:
One of the best parts of being a pediatrician is watching your children grow. We can work together to give them their best chance to be healthy and to enjoy their childhood.
I am very happy to work in the Rancho Cordova clinic, and I am honored to work with a whole group of outstanding pediatricians. I will try to see you at every visit, but if I don't see you, I trust my colleagues' judgment implicitly.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments. I check my e-mails daily when I am in the office. If you have an urgent request or question, please contact the call center.
My Outside Interests:
In addition to my continued love of athletics, I also love to read. Here at the Rancho clinic we feel reading is a very important part of growing up. Please check out our reading web site at Rancho Cordova Reach Out and Read
