My Profession

I am an Obstetrician/Gynecologist, which means that I deal with the health of female reproduction and reproductive organs. I chose this specialty for many reasons. I enjoy working with women in various aspects of their healthcare but with this focus. I love delivering babies and providing obstetrical care. In college, I majored in genetics where my interest in prenatal diagnosis and care began. I also like the practice of gynecology, which combines surgical and non-surgical treatments. I love the variety that my specialty offers, though it is all focused on a specific organ system. I enjoy being able provide preventative care and help my patients stay healthy. I enjoy the continuity of care that I have with my patients and the ability to have long-term relationships even if that relationship began focused on a particular problem that has since been resolved.

My Credentials

Medical school UC San Diego School of Medicine, La Jolla, CA
Internship Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO
Residency Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO
Board certification Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

My Practice Philosophy

I believe that my role as a physician is to advise and educate my patients to help them decide what is best for their own health. I try to respect all of our different beliefs realizing that people will often make different decisions when faced with the same situation. I try to explain things so they are understandable so that women really do know what their choices are.

My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since May 2003. I previously was in a private-style practice at the UC Davis School of Medicine for 3 years, though still remain on the volunteer clinical faculty. Kaiser has allowed me to have a great general Ob/Gyn practice where I can work part-time (I have 1 day off per week), but still not limit the type of practice I have. I still am able to see patients in the office, deliver babies, and perform surgeries. Working part-time has allowed me to spend more time with my family and thereby have more balance in my life. With this balance between work and my personal life, I feel that I can be a better doctor when I am working. I LOVE not having to answer the insurance companies when ordering tests or medications that I feel are best for my patient. I feel this respect for my training and medical judgment by Kaiser is important. I think that one of the biggest strengths of Kaiser Permanente is the availability of educational resources and the integrated health care that we offer.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I currently serve as a representative on the Bioethics committee, which is also an interest of mine.

My Personal History

I was born in Modesto, California, and lived there for my entire childhood. I attended college at U.C. Berkeley then took a year off to work in a lab before attending medical school. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and have a daughter and a cat. I also love music and needlecrafts.

About My Home Page

I hope that this home page is helpful to you as a current or future patient. I've also included links to the websites of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). They both offer good, reliable information. The ACOG site has good information on various topics of all areas of Ob/Gyn and the ASRM site is excellent for infertility information.
