Welcome to my web page

In 2003, I joined the radiology group at Kaiser Oakland and Richmond after twelve years in private practice in the East Bay. I have been fortunate to remain involved in most of diagnostic radiology but with a special interest in obstetrical ultrasound and image-guided biopsies. At Kaiser Permanente, I am re-energized by the cooperation and optimism in our department and by the generally happy and energetic physicians throughout the medical center. I feel lucky to practice radiology here.

Raised in Michigan, I studied physics in college, and, after a short stint in graduate school, entered medical school. I love science, but as my career evolves I come to treasure more the personal interactions in medicine. Outside interests include my wife and two children, literature, carpentry, and exercise in various forms. I am uncertain what light my love of tennis sheds on radiology, but I have found that other interests do complement a medical career. I believe more strongly every year that exercise and fitness promote health and happiness as much as any medical intervention or medication. Before children restricted my itineraries, I traveled whenever possible; now I go camping and to t-ball.

I perform many of the guided biopsies in our department (lung, body, breast) and enjoy talking to people and their families on what can be a stressful biopsy day. If you are scheduled for a biopsy, please take a moment to review some biopsy information I have included in the left column. If you have any questions about a study I may do in radiology, please call me in the department.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
