My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a surgical oncologist. This means that I operate on patients with cancer. In addition, I have been trained in the multidisciplinary care of cancer which means that I will work in conjunction with other cancer specialists to coordinate the most appropriate care for you and your specific needs. I am a general surgeon by training and although I have received extra training in the care of patients with cancer I treat not just cancer but a variety of surgical diseases.

My Practice Philosophy

Communication is paramount in medicine. Most patients dread hearing the word "cancer" and it evokes many fears and preconceptions. My job will be to help you understand your diagnosis and the various treatment options. Together we will decide what the best treatment is for you.

My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente

During my surgical training at the University of California at Davis I had the opportunity to work in a variety of different practice environments. Kaiser has always been appealing to me because it allows physicians to work in a cooperative fashion with the patient being the first priority. It is truly a team approach.

On a Personal Note

I grew up north of San Francisco and attended college at UC Santa Cruz followed by medical school and surgical training at UC Davis. I then had subspecialty training in surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. My time in Texas made me realize that I am a true Californian and don't want to be out of this state and it is great to be here near my family and friends.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
