Mavis Ching, OTR/L - Department of Rehabilitation Services

Welcome to Rehabilitation Services at Kaiser Santa Clara! I look forward to working with you, and I would like to tell you a little bit about my background.

I was born in small town in British Colombia, Canada, and moved to the United States with my family when I was three years old. My husband and I are recent San Francisco transplants to what we fondly refer to as the “burbs,” along the peninsula.

I graduated from UC Davis in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and I earned a Masters in Occupational Therapy from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, CA in 1998. I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders.

I began my professional career at On Lok Senior Health/Goldman Institute on Aging, then worked at California Pacific Medical Center and continue to work as an independent OT contractor at a small hospital in the Potrero Hill area in San Francisco. I joined the Kaiser Permanente team at Redwood City in 2003 and transferred to the Santa Clara team in 2006.

My interests include reading, cooking and baking, gardening, crafts, watching and playing sports, and spending time with my boys (my husband and two little ones!). We are former small business owners of Moreish Treats, manufacturing uncommonly moist and tasty scones that we continue to love to share with our family and friends!

If you have any questions about your Occupational Therapy care at Kaiser, please feel free to leave me a message at 408-236-4545. Your care is important to me, and I usually return calls on (which days does Mavis work?).

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
