I came to medicine after several years of work in international public health. I currently work at the Oakland Medical Center as a "hospitalist." I take care of adult patients who are hospitalized for a variety of reasons, including infections, cancer, strokes, heart attacks and other non-surgical illnesses. I have a special interest in preventing and treating the most common diseases impacting our society - coronary artery disease and diabetes. I also enjoy teaching residents at the Oakland Medical Center, and learning about the latest updates in internal medicine from them and my colleagues.

Originally from New England, I have called California my home for 20 years. In my free time, I love to hike, travel, and volunteer at the Marin Agricultural Land Trust, where I lead tours of land protected under conservation easement. Currently I am a getting a "green" MBA at the Presidio School of Management in San Francisco. I am a member of the Kaiser Oakland Green Team, whose mission is to promote energy efficiency, waste reduction, and a healthy environment for its workers and patients. I am also a member of the Orinda Planning Department Green Building Committee, whose aim is to adopt green building guidelines in our community.

I have two wonderful children, a son in high school and a daughter in college.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
