Welcome to my web site!
Physical medicine emphasizes that you are the center of your health care. Your activities (such as work, family, hobbies, and self-care) are all part of your independent life. In health care, your efforts make the most of your ability.
As a physical medicine doctor specializing in spine care, I evaluate you medically (history, physical examination, radiology, labs, EMGs, etc.) and functionally (how you walk, sit, care for your self, work, play). This evaluation defines the problems with your spine and its effects on your life.
I work with you and your primary care doctor to improve your function:
- Medically, with planning injections of the spine to decrease inflammation and swelling, and considering possible surgical interventions. We'll review your medicines to ensure that your medications help with decreasing inflammation, swelling, nerve and muscle irritation and pain.
- Functionally, with exerecises for strength, flexibility and endurance of the spine; strategies for pacing and coping with daily tasks, and adaptations to particular tasks (how to perform tasks within certain limits).
- Behaviorally: how your own attitudes and choices help or hinder your function. Your care may involve behavioral medicine if this is helpful.
Conservative managment is often described as nonsurgical management. Physical medicine can also help prepare you for spine surgery. Care then focuses on having you be in the best shape for any surgery, and streamlining recovery from any surgery done.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
