Margaret Harrer received her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University with a specialization in child development and treatment.

She moved to the Bay area to complete post doctoral training at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute at University of California San Francisco and at Kaiser Milpitas. She served as the Director of a Child and Family Mental Health program at San Francisco General for 15 years before taking some time off to live with her family in Europe.

Upon returning to California, she was the Management Coordinator of the Center for Child Protection at Children's Hospital Oakland for several years. Since the spring of 2002 she has served as the Behavioral Health Manager at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Kaiser Milpitas.
