My Qualifications

I was born and raised in Berkeley, California. I went to college at the University of California, Berkeley. For a change of pace, I decided to move back east for a while. I received my medical degree from George Washington University and completed my residency with Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. I am board certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1998. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente I was in private practice in rural Virginia, 60 miles outside Washington, D.C. I have received Extra Mile Hero awards and serve on several committees including Patient Care Quality Control and Physician Health and Wellness. I am the Member Service Liaison for the department. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

My Healthcare Practice

Some of my professional interests include well baby visits, adolescents, preventative medicine, as well as being part of the administrative workings of our Pediatrics Department. Dr. Victoria Akins and I are in a partnership practice because we both are available to our patients a little less than fulltime. By setting our practice up in this way, we know our patients can always see our partner if they cannot see their primary doctor. They get to know us both very well. We have very similar practice styles. I chose pediatrics because children are a pleasure to work with. I enjoy their playfulness as well as cautiousness in interactions. It feels good and is usually possible to help them feel better when they are ill. Additionally, I look forward to some of the more intellectually or emotionally challenging complicated cases or teen cases as well. Kids are terrific!! And parents are fun to teach as well.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente

One stop shopping. Your medical care at Kaiser Permanente can all be done at one place. This certainly makes it easier for providers when doing a work-up on a patient. We don’t have to think about which lab, which x-ray, which specialist, etc., to send our patients to. This, in turn, makes it easier for the patient.

My Outside Interests

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my two beautiful girls and my wonderful bunch of friends. I also like to cook, run, swim, bike, listen to music, and travel when I can.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
