Welcome to My Home Page!
I am a clinical social worker at Kaiser Permanente in Antioch, California. I serve at the Outpatient Kaiser Permanente Mental Health clinic as a Parity Case Manager. This is a new area of specialty for me. My background in clinical social work, education and program development prepares me for this position. I serve as case manager for Autism Spectrum Disorder patients and their families. I also assist with educationally related questions patients have regarding school placement concerns. I attempt to help families receive the appropriate care they need.
I have developed support groups to educate families who have children with special needs. I have been involved in social work since 1986, the year I was licensed. I received a BS in Education in 1971 and certification in special education in the areas of learning disabilities, social emotional disturbances, pupil personnel, and administration. I completed my master’s thesis on “The Role of the School Social Worker”. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, private practice and residential programs with adolescents and adults. I began my career in 1971 as an educator, working in public and private education as well as special education. I was the co-coordinator of special education in a high school in Chicago and have taught in three universities across the country in the areas of education and behavioral health. In 1979, I earned my master's in social work and continued my career in the mental health field. I have been trained throughout the country in alternative medicine techniques (acupressure, guided imagery, expressive arts therapy, mind-body education, psychosomatic medicine). I chaired the Mind-Body Panel for the Kaiser Permanente Annual Conference in 1996 and presented research in the areas of alternative therapies for mental illness.
I have a specialty in Child and Family Treatment, Psychosomatic Medicine and Eating Disorders. I have worked at Kaiser Permanente for 13 years with Child and Family Services. I helped develop and was the program director for the Outpatient Adolescent Eating Disorder Program in Walnut Creek. I also served as the Clinical Manager and developer of the Subregional Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program located in Walnut Creek.
I believe in the healing power of groups and have abiding faith in a person's natural passion to be healthy, once "dis-eased" thinking, emotions and behaviors are balanced. I have had the good fortune to work in many highly regarded institutions, receiving excellent training and supervision. My future interests are to continue to research methods of treatment for eating disorders with adults and children, as well as continue to develop my skills in the area of autistic spectrum disorders and emotionally challenged children and youth in schools.
