Why I like practicing at Kaiser Permanente

I have had a long association with Kaiser Permanente-first as a patient throughout my childhood and early adult life and most recently as a physician. I have been employed at KP for 5 years and worked in Dermatology for 5 years before that in a multi-specialty clinic in Sacramento. I have greatly appreciated the ability to practice medicine here at Kaiser Permanente without having to be involved in any of the buisness aspects. At Kaiser Permanente I can focus on what I enjoy most, patient care.

Why I chose Dermatology

Like most of my physician colleagues, I contemplated many different specialties before I found one that "fit." I still find Dermatology fascinating. Sure we treat common conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema, but there are an amazing variety of skin diseases and I am always being challenged with unusual skin ailments. I also enjoy the opportunity to see patients of all ages and like the surgical procedures that we perform here in Dermatology. Educating my patients about their skin conditions and skin cancer prevention is also rewarding.

My Personal History

I grew up in Sacramento and attended high school at CK McClatchy. I went away for medical school and internship, but being a "local girl," I found myself back in Sacramento for my residency and am very happy here close to family and friends. I enjoy the proximity to Lake Tahoe for skiing, hiking and the great outdoors.

Professional Affiliations

I am a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Sacramento Valley Dermatology Society. I enjoy the great learning opportunities these memberships provide. Here in the Sacramento Valley we meet monthly to discuss the latest studies in our dermatology journals and have conferences twice a year where we hear lectures from distinguished speakers. We also see patients with challenging dermatological conditions at a monthly meeting.
