About Me

I was born and raised on the east coast and have lived in every major city, Washington DC, Boston, NYC and New Haven. But, when I first visited Northern California, I realized I wanted to make this area my home. I moved to Oakland when I started my residency in Ob/Gyn in 1981 and have proudly worked at Kaiser Permanente ever since.

I love the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Working with women during the most important life transitions has been an honor all of these years. It has also been fascinating to keep up with the numerous discoveries and improvements in Women’s Health Care.

I have a life partner and a 6-year-old daughter, both of whom keep me continually on my toes as I struggle to be the parent and partner I want to be. I find I get a lot of sage advice from my patients on parental questions.

I strongly believe that the physicians and nurses at KP offer the best quality health care to our patients, as well as working in the most moral environment to practice that high quality of care. Since I first started here, it has always been true that health care decisions are made strictly between the physician and the patient. My personal philosophy of that decision making is to share knowledge and make decisions jointly with my patients. During my tenure here, I have moved more into an administrative role, one that permitted me to extend my philosophy to the broader issue of access to care.

Though my office hours are limited, the time I spend with patients recharges my batteries, and reminds me of the commitment to patients on which I have based my career.

Here are some web sites that I recommend to obtain more information about those life transitions: (See also the great KP web sites recommended on the side bar.)

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
