About Me

I was born and raised in San Francisco. I graduated from UC Davis in 1991 with a Bachelor's in Science degree in Physiology with interests in how memories are developed and neurology/psychology. I worked for almost 3 years with patients with brain trauma/injury and rehabilitation through college and then went on to St. George's University. I chose pediatrics partly because of my autistic cousin and interest in childhood autism/pediatric neurology. I completed my pediatric residency at Albany Medical Center, Children's Hospital in 1998 and joined Kaiser Permanente that year.

In addition to my clinic duties (in Alameda and Oakland), I also attend in the Newborn Nursery at Kaiser Oakland several weeks during the year, where my interests also include teaching our intern and resident physicians. My other interests include developing/publishing the Kaiser Oakland-Alameda physician Home Pages, the Cyberdoc project (physician and patient communication via email - which has now graduated to the Secure Messaging system), and Employee recognition and appreciation. I hope to update and tailor these Home Pages to your needs, so please let me know what you think about our physician Home Pages and how we can make this more useful for you.

Being the first born from a family who taught English in Canton, China, I speak both Cantonese and English fluently. Some of our health information can be found in our Pediatric Information in Chinese section and also you can go to Tufts University's SPIRAL site which has health information in 7 different Asian languages.

I welcome you and your loved ones into our extended Family. Come in and Meet Our Department!!

* In the News *

To my many wonderful patients, as you may know, being able to see me for regular checkups and visits has been very difficult since I had been doing only urgent care and hospital duty. I have good news. I am doing regular clinic duty in Alameda (see above) so I can see you for regular checkups once again. I used to do some regular clinic duty in Oakland, but since Dr Ruiz has left, I have needed to be in Alameda full time. I am terribly sorry for all the inconvenience, for I do know how difficult it can be to get an appointment normally, and it had been worse over the last few months. Thank you so much for being so very patient while we undergo these changes, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Summer is here, so please book your school physicals for Kindergarten and entry into High School early! Please see "In the News" for more information!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
