My Qualifications

I first came to know Kaiser Permanente as a member and had Kaiser Permanente until I was a young adult. I joined as a provider in July of 2005. I am a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and I have a special interest in asthma and pediatric lung disease.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis, CA
Internship Children's Hospital, Oakland, CA
Residency Children's Hospital, Oakland, CA
Board certification Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics

My Healthcare Practice

I am a pediatrician. This means I provide general medical care to people from birth to young adulthood. I chose pediatrics as a specialty because of my experiences with it as a medical student, including some time at Kaiser Point West. I found that I enjoyed working with families and their children a great deal.

My practice philosophy is to do my best to serve my patients and their families. I want to use my education and experience to both help families when their children are ill and to help keep them well. I strive to make medical concepts easy to understand and partner with families in making medical decisions.

My goal is to provide high-level care for all of my patients. Working for Kaiser Permanente makes providing this care possible. I have the advantages of having a large group of colleagues and specialists to call on, and the technologic and financial advantages of a large organization to help me. At the same time, I’m allowed to practice medicine as I feel is appropriate, without the hassles of business ownership or dealing with multiple insurers.

My Outside Interests

I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area, living first in Berkeley and then in El Sobrante (near Richmond). I attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate, majoring in neurobiology. I spent the next 2 years working in a neurosurgery lab at the VA hospital in San Francisco studying stroke. I spent 4 years in Davis and Sacramento for medical school. I then returned to Oakland for my residency training. I met my wife there and we plotted our move up towards the mountains. I spent my first year after residency working for a small private group in Walnut Creek, CA and then moved to Auburn prior to starting at Kaiser Permanente in July of 2005. I enjoy several sports, including rock climbing, basketball and mountain biking. I read quite a bit and have a fairly diverse taste in music. We have a dog we spend a lot of time with and lots of house projects as well.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
