About Me

Hi my name is Kristal Louie. I am ecstatic to be working here in the Kaiser Sacramento Genetics Department. I have driven approximately 800 miles from Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada to join a great group of Genetic Counselors and Geneticists.

Like many people out there, you might be wondering what a Genetic Counselor does? The following is my personal take on what a Genetic Counselor does. A Genetic Counselor is there to help you and your family cope with and navigate through a new diagnosis of a genetic condition, or a family history with a genetic condition, or a pregnancy at risk of a genetic condition. Regardless of the situation, a Genetic Counselor is there to support you.

To sum up who I am in a paragraph I will start with telling you about how I grew up. I am the oldest of four children. My fondest memories were of our annual family vacations. My home town of Vancouver is known for its beautiful outdoor scenery with the mountains to the north and the ocean to the west. I love spending my time eating, cooking & baking. I’m not very good at the latter two, but I am very good at the first!! I also love jogging in the morning when it’s not too hot out and you still get that nice warmth from the sun.

I look forward to meeting you and hopefully I can help you through whatever brings you to the Genetics Department.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
