My Specialty and Why I Chose It

Hello and welcome to my home page! I hope this gives you the opportunity to learn a little about me. I look forward to getting to know you better in clinic soon.

I am a board certified family physician. This means I am trained to take care of the whole family, from birth to the end of life. I decided to become a family physician because I love the emphasis placed on caring for the whole person. This emphasis expands care from disease management and includes the impact of illness on a patient, their family, and their community as well as the impact that family and community have on their illness.

My Practice Philosophy

I strongly believe medical care is a partnership between a patient and physician. We each bring important pieces to the table and through teamwork we can arrive at an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. Communication is key to successful care -- If there is more you would like me to understand about you or if you need further clarification of what I am saying, please let me know! You can expect that at each visit we will discuss your primary reason for seeing me that day as well as strive to address preventive health needs.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I joined Kaiser Permanente during the Fall of 2007. I chose Kaiser because of the focus on providing excellent patient care. I watched this first-hand through care my family received at Kaiser and felt strongly this would be a medical home where I could practice the best medicine possible.

I am able to practice medicine with colleagues who value excellent patient care as highly as I do. I appreciate the ease with which I can consult with providers down the hall or with specialists at a different facility. Kaiser supports continuing education with numerous education opportunities. I also appreciate the ability to balance my home and professional lives.

On a Personal Note

I was raised in Colorado, Montana and Wyoming but consider the Sacramento area home after moving here in high school. A scholarship from the Air Force enabled me to attend the Medical College of Pennsylvania, known for its emphasis on family medicine. After my residency, I was assigned to Misawa Air Base, located in a remote area of northern Japan. Highlights from those three years include close patient relationships, tight-knit friendships, a collegial hospital staff, and traveling with my husband, Josh. In 2006, I was invited back to Travis to teach at the Family Medicine Residency Program and completed my service commitment there in June. I loved the joys (and occasional trials!) of molding the next generation of family physicians and plan to keep teaching in one capacity or another throughout my career.

The greatest highlight, however, came in 2005 when our daughter Morgan was born. She has enriched our lives in more ways than we can describe....

As much as we loved the excitement of living overseas, after having Morgan we were ready to settle down. We are enjoying putting down roots in the Folsom community and I am particularly excited about providing life-long care to my patients here at Kaiser. Outside of work, I enjoy playing with my daughter and spending time with my husband. We like outdoor activities, spending time with extended family and friends and traveling. I love a good novel and would love to hear your favorite books.
