About Me
During my last year in medical school at Vanderbilt University, I had a very difficult time deciding on my specialty of choice. I spent many months rotating through different departments. I enjoyed every single specialty I encountered. Then I rotated through the Emergency Department. That’s when I realized that Emergency Medicine was ideal for me, in that it allowed me to experience the entire spectrum of medicine. I realized that, in one day in the Emergency Department, I could help care for patients with heart attacks, strokes, lacerations, broken bones, infectious diseases, or any other problem.
While I served my residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, it became clear to me that I enjoy being in an environment that embraces the cutting edge while assuring quality care, that allows physicians to practice without the bias of financial concerns clouding their judgement. My mentors assured me that the closest thing to such an ideal environment existed only in an academic medical center. About this, they were wrong.
I have had the honor of being a Kaiser Permanente physician for three years now. Every day, I notice another example of why Kaiser Permanente is the ideal medical care environment. I feel strongly that my patients deserve the best that I can give them. This is why I chose to become a Kaiser Permanente physician. The integrated health care delivery system that Kaiser Permanente has developed allows me to provide my best for my patients every time. The Kaiser Permanente system works in the best interest of patients. That is all that matters, in my opinion.
My fundamental approach to patient care is fairly simple: I treat my patients in the manner that I would like to be treated were I in their position. I believe that compassion and caring at times of crisis, such as during a visit to the Emergency Department, are as vital as top-notch medical treatment.
Ironically, I have had several personal encounters with the Emergency Department (mostly as the result of my collegiate bicycle racing career while I was at Cal....suffice to say that my nickname on the team was “Krash”). Today, I am thankful for those visits, because they always remind me what it feels like to be a patient in the ED.
If you ever meet me in the Emergency Department, ask me about bicycling, hiking, skiing, climbing, backpacking, or music. I prefer to converse in English, but I’ll be happy to speak to you in Farsi or broken (really broken) French.
I wish you the best of health.
