Hi and welcome to my web page. Hopefully this web page will give you information about me and about my specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
About Me
My parents immigrated to the United States from China, settling in Sacramento, California, where I was born. I am the fifth child out of six (2 sisters and 3 brothers). My father and mother own and operate a Chinese restaurant in Sacramento.
I met my wife Shelley during college at University of California at Davis. We were married after graduation in 1995. Currently, my wife Shelley is a nurse practitioner working at a family practice clinic in Vallejo, California. Shelley and I have two children, Justin and Emeline.
My Education
In 1994, I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development. In 1997, I moved to San Francisco where I attended dental school at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. I was selected and initiated into the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry Honor Society, Tau Kappa Omega and earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2000. Following graduation, I completed a postdoctoral general practice residency at the Veterans Administration in Martinez, California, in 2001. I then completed my oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Highland General Hospital in 2005. I joined Kaiser Permanente soon after graduation from the residency program.
My Surgical Training
My residency training program specialized in trauma (mandibular and facial fractures), reconstructive surgery, orthognathic surgery (completed at Kaiser Permanente Hospital Oakland), pathology, dental implant surgery, dental alveolar surgery, cranio-facial surgery, and cosmetic surgery.
Why Kaiser and what is different about Kaiser
During my training at Kaiser Permanente, I discovered the necessity for orthognathic surgery. This type of surgery not only corrects congenital/functional defects, but has a dramatic impact on patients’ lives by giving them a new self image. Orthognathic surgery is only one component of the maxillofacial surgery department at Kaiser which also includes pathology, trauma, temporal mandibular joint treatment and craniofacial surgery.
I choose Kaiser because of the team approach in treating patients. Through the team approach, I have the ability to diagnosis and treat my patients at the highest standard of care.
