Hello and welcome to my home page!

I hope this page provides you with helpful information regarding my background and training. I have also included links to other sites which may provide you with useful information regarding eye care.

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended college at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where I double-majored in Cell Biology and Religious Studies. I came to San Francisco for medical school and for my residency in Ophthalmology. After residency, I went to Boston for my fellowship and two years of private practice while my wife, who also happens to be a part of the Kaiser San Rafael team, completed her residency in Urology.

Before our return to the Bay Area, we took one year to live abroad. We spent six months working at a charitable hospital in rural India where I helped start their program in corneal transplantation. Our second six months were spent in Paris where I pursued further training in refractive surgery at the Rothschild Foundation.

During our year abroad, we had the opportunity to travel extensively. Our travels gave us an appreciation for the beauty, diversity, and challenges in the world and also deepened our profound love of this country and its ideals. We have also come to the conclusion that the food in California is the absolute best.

Having had the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings, I am particularly excited to be a member of the Kaiser team. My peers are a bright and inspiring group of people for whom I have the greatest respect and admiration. The institution also provides a framework and mission consistent with my practice philosophy which is to provide my patients with the best care possible and to treat them as I would a member of my own family.

My professional interests include corneal disease, refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK), and complicated anterior segment surgery. I enjoy staying involved in the academic aspects of Ophthalmology by contributing to peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, as well as teaching both here and abroad.

I am fluent in Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati and am functional in French.

In my free time, I enjoy writing, music, reading, tennis and swimming.

I look forward to the opportunity to be a partner in your health care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
