My Profession and Why I Chose It

I am an internist and have worked as a hospital physician for the last 6 years. I chose this field because I find the work challenging and interesting and at the same time, I am able to help the patients and their families in their times of need. As an internist, I take care of mostly ill patients that require hospitalization for various reasons.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

I believe it is very important to listen to patients and their families especially when they are facing the difficult time of dealing with a serious illness. I often will arrange for family conferences to address their concerns and answer their questions. Of course, it is important to stay up to date with the latest medical developments for the different illnesses and get appropriate subspecialty consultations.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a Kaiser Permanente physician for nearly 15 years. I worked in the clinic for about 9 years prior to working in the hospital treating in-patients. I decided to stay with Kaiser Permanente because I believe Kaiser Permanente provides good medical care and continues to work on improving its quality.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I believe Kaiser has high-caliber physicians who believe in giving excellent medical care to their patients. Over the years, I have seen many improvements and projects implemented to provide improved in-patient care and overall hospital best practices. Kaiser Permanente provides ongoing medical educational support for its physicians and is continuously upgrading information technology support. As a hospital physician, I am able to get subspecialty consultations that are helpful and reliable.

About Me

I am a native of Taiwan, a small peninsula off the coast of China. I immigrated to America at the age of 13 and had to learn English as a second language. I have lived in the Sacramento area since then. I am the first medical doctor in my family. I have a large family with 5 sisters and 1 brother. My parents were from a small rural city and had numerous setbacks in their childhood and were not able to be educated. Therefore, getting a good education is very important to them. This idea was ingrained in me early in life. I greatly appreciate the educational opportunities I received in America. I am married with 2 beautiful children, a son, age 10 and a daughter, age 5. I truly appreciate being actively involved with their lives and their development. Away from work, I am busy with family activities. On a personal basis, my experience with my sister's prolonged illness with brain cancer has taught me a great deal about what the family goes through while dealing with their loved one’s illness. I enjoy taking family vacations, and I am learning to ski better to catch up with the rest of my family including my young daughter.
