Welcome to My Home Page!

My Qualifications

Hello and thank you for visiting my page! I appreciate you taking the time to learn a little more about me. I selected the field of health education because of my love for teaching and helping others to improve their lives.

Maintaining good health is the backbone for leading a positive and productive life. I graduated from CSU, Chico with a Bachelors of Science degree in Health Sciences with an emphasis on Health Education. While in Chico, I developed and implemented a University-wide health education program, began a peer health education program, served as a California statewide college student health advocate, served as a University-wide college student health advocate and participated in many community service events. I also enjoyed working as a health educator at the Student Health Center, providing safer sex education to college students.

Following Chico, I moved to Miami, Florida where I completed a Masters of Public Health (MPH) at The Robert Stempel School of Public Health at Florida International University. I received a specialization certificate in Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. While in Florida, I worked with the Miami-Dade Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program, the REACH 2010 program and the South Florida Syphilis Commission. I loved the diversity of my MPH program and value being able to learn from so many ethnicities. I have also successfully passed the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination.

Having been raised in the California bay area and also as a lifetime Kaiser member, I am thrilled to be living back in the East bay and helping to improve the lives of Kaiser members in my own back yard!

My Philosophy on Healing

I believe that maintaining wellness and healing are holistic. People are at their best when each dimension of wellness (i.e. physical, spiritual, social, emotional, occupational, and intellectual) is in balance. While complete balance is definitely a challenge, I hope that I am able to positively contribute to the lives of patients in order to help them achieve their individual wellness goals. I am also a strong believer in prevention education. Knowledge is power! According to the Center for Disease Control, some of the leading causes of death in the United States are heart disease; cancer; stroke; chronic lower respiratory diseases; accidents; diabetes; and influenza/pneumonia.

In the past, the leading causes of death were communicable diseases. Many of today’s killers are chronic and more importantly, can often be delayed or even prevented entirely through proper prevention steps and education. I am very excited to be able to provide prevention and health education for many of these chronic conditions through my position as a Clinical Health Educator.

My Interests Outside of Work

Outside of work, I take yoga and volunteer in my community. I love to spend time with my family and friends. Most of my close friends live in the bay area as do many of my siblings. I have one younger adult brother, three adult step-sisters and one adult step-brother. However, I especially enjoy spending time with my little brother and sister, twins, who are in elementary school. Family and friends are very important to me and definitely positively contribute to my personal wellness.
