About Me
As a family nurse practitioner for almost 19 years, I have had the opportunity to practice around the country in many settings, including large academic centers, county hospitals, and a rural family practice. I began my focus on long-term care while part of a family practice in Northern New Hampshire (Our county had more moose than people!) ten years ago, and found geriatrics to be challenging and rewarding. I have been with Kaiser Oakland for four years, and am proud to be a part of what I consider the most rational and excellent health care delivery system available. The emphasis on prevention, evidence-based medicine, and a continuing commitment to high quality care, all combine to make Kaiser Permanente an excellent context for the provision of outstanding medical and nursing care.
The role of the nurse practitioner blends the best of nursing and the best of medicine. It allows me to provide the tools for patients and families to make decisions and actively participate in the management of their health care and that of their family members. In conjunction with the physicians, I am able to diagnose and manage a wide range of conditions. These include the issues of acute rehabilitation, intermittent illness, complex care of chronic conditions and end of life care. Our Skilled Nursing Facililty/Continuing Care team is an interdisciplinary group, which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, and case managers who work together with the SNF rehab and nursing staff to assure the timely treatment of new problems while continuing the process of ongoing healing.
Our goal is to maintain the highest level of function of our varied members while assuring their comfort and dignity. It is an honor and a pleasure to work with our patients and their families! I feel fortunate to have a job that I love.
When I'm not working, I am spending time with my husband and two sons, getting them to hike with me whenever I can convince them, and enjoy music, reading and sports.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
