Hello! Thank you for visiting my web page.

About me:
I'm truly a local product - I attended Oakland public schools and graduated from Skyline High School, and went to UC Berkeley. I joined Kaiser Oakland in the Emergency Department in 1992.

I chose emergency medicine for its variety and "fast pace", and for its philosophy of being the safety net of the community, treating all comers, regardless of patient circumstances. I choose to work at Kaiser because of our emphasis and commitment to provide appropriate, necessary, and affordable care for patients and our history of allowing the patient and the physician to make medical decisions with minimal barriers. I strive to provide the best, most appropriate emergency care for our members, and I consider it a privilege to provide care to the people of my hometown.

My professional associations and activities include:
Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association (ACCMA)
California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (Cal ACEP)

My professional interests include:
Quality improvement and continuing education, sport medicine, infectious diseases

My outside interests include:
My family (wife and four kids, and my father still lives in Oakland), general science, health and fitness, general technology (gadgets and gizmos), hiking and cycling, and travel. One of my favorite web links is http://www.howstuffworks.com.

My Credentials

Medical school UC San Diego School of Medicine, La Jolla, CA
Residency Northwestern University, Chicago, IL
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
