I am pleased to offer my home page as a means to introduce myself and also to provide you with high quality health information through useful handouts and web links for my general internal medicine patients and my HIV (+) patients as well. I hope you find this useful as a resource to improve your health and overall quality of life that is so important to us all.

My Qualifications

After growing up in Sacramento and attending UC Berkeley in the mid-80's I ventured off to New York City were I received my medical degree from Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons and completed my internal medicine residency at The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. I am also a credentialed HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM).

My Healthcare Practice

Before joining Kaiser Permanente, I practiced medicine for 5 years at the Center for AIDS Research Education and Services here in Sacramento and the University of California, Davis Medical Center. Although I spend a majority of my time as a primary care physician, I have a specialty interest in HIV/AIDS care as well and continue that as a large part of my practice.

Coming to Kaiser in 2000 has been a wonderful experience as it has allowed me to continue caring for patients in what I believe is the best possible way - with compassion, expertise and teamwork! Providing excellent care for you, my patients, would not be possible were it not for each and every one of my colleagues, from the receptionist up front, to our medical assistants and nurses, our pharmacists, doctors, lab technicians, health educators and more.

As your physician I will always strive to be honest, direct and understanding of you and your goals as we work together towards excellent health, both physically and emotionally. I will listen to your concerns and always make your appointment top priority.

I take special interest in medical education and clinical research, primarily in the area of HIV care. To this end, Kaiser has supported my involvement with medical education through the training and mentoring of UC Davis internal medicine residents - the doctors of tomorrow. This not only helps train new physician, but drives me to stay up to date with the most current knowledge and treatment approaches -- ultimately benefitting my patients. In my HIV practice, I have also established (with the aide of a clinical research nurse and nurse practitioner) a very active HIV Clinical Trials Unit that provides new therapies in HIV care. As director of this unit, I work with a well-qualified team advancing the care of our patients and providing them with further hopes and better health.

When not working my time is spent with my wife and two growing boys. I also find it important to exercise and look after my own health, "practicing what I preach".

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
