My Qualifications

After residency, I worked for one year at Chicano Clinic in San Diego (where I met my wife). I started work here at the Sacramento Kaiser Medical Center January 1, 1986. I also serve as an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at University of California Davis, which involves clinical teaching of internal medicine residents and students as they rotate through our medical center. Some of my professional interests include hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and renal physiology. I was Chairman of Nephrology Quality Assurance Committee here for 6 years, and currently serve on the Hypertension Work Group. I'm also involved in teaching and giving talks to fellow physicians on topics in my field including hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and kidney failure.

My Healthcare Practice

As your physician, I place the highest priority on giving you the most competent medical care available. I also try to listen and remember that each patient is an individual. Here at Kaiser we are very experienced in all areas of nephrology including procedures such as hemodialysis, catheter placement, and kidney biopsy.

I chose this field of medicine because I tended to be “left-brain” logic/number oriented and liked mathematics and physiology, which resulted in me gravitating to physiological subspecialties of medicine such as cardiology, pulmonary, and nephrology (kidney).

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente

My Outside Interests

When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my son, wife and pets, exercising, and reading. I have been a lifelong athlete – basketball and tennis when younger, competitive distance runner, triathlete and then bicycle racer in my 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
