Welcome to my web site. As most things are, this is a work in progress, and I would appreciate your input on improving the usefulness of this site. The design of this site is to provide reliable and informative health educational materials and links for your urologic health. It is also an opportunity for me to let you know a little bit about me.

I grew up in Southern California, but never returned after graduating from Cal. Go Bears!! After spending 4 years of medical school at UC Davis--playing ultimate Frisbee and ruining my ankles--I returned to the Bay Area to complete my 6-year training in urology at UC San Francisco. Fresh out, I joined the urology practice at the Oakland Medical Center in 1999. I am board-certified in adult and pediatric urology with special interest in prostate cancer and pediatric urology, but I truly enjoy all aspects of urology. I generally spend one to two days a week in the operating room. The remainder of the time, I am available in the urology clinic on the ground floor of the Oakland Medical Center Hospital. I have three young children. Soccer games and school-related activities dominate my free time.

I am blessed with 5 excellent partners, and my office staff is second to none. We have an extremely busy and dynamic group; this means we are not infrequently balancing the individual needs of several patients at the same time. We strive always to stay on schedule, but occasionally, a patient may drop in unexpectedly with pressing needs, and this may result in some unexpected delays. I beg your patience. Also, because urology is a surgical practice, I may be unexpectedly called to assist in the operating room. In case of such occurrences, my staff will do their utmost to contact you and reschedule an alternate appointment.

My philosophy is to thoroughly educate my patients so that they can make intelligent decisions about their health care. I will try to steer you clear of any poor or dangerous choices, but once informed, the ultimate decision lies with you. I will respect your wishes. While I see surgery as an integral component to urologic treatment, I believe also that all conservative measures should be considered before proceeding to any necessary operative intervention.

I hope you find this web site useful. Welcome again.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
