Welcome to my Home Page!
As a Nurse Practitioner, the relationship with my patients is very important to me. My goal in working with the Regional Heart Transplant Service is to treat your heart problem and to help you and your family understand and cope with your condition in the best way possible. The Heart Transplant service is an interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, and clerical staff working to provide you with the best care possible.
My Background...
I was born in England but have lived in the San Francisco Bay Are for most of my life. I obtained my basic RN training from San Francisco State University. Since graduation in 1977, I have worked in a variety of nursing roles including critical care and trauma care. In 1989, I joined Kaiser Permanente working initially in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. I then joined the Heart Transplant Service in 1995 as the transplant coordinator. Kaiser Permanente and especially the Heart Transplant Service has given me the opportunity to work within a team environment that encompasses all of Kaiser Permanente, working toward the highest quality of care for all patients and their families. In 2004, I completed my Masters of Science in Nursing with Nurse Practitioner training and I am certified as a Family - ANCC by the ANCC: ANA - American Nurses Credentialing Center. I have special interests in heart failure, heart transplant, and preventative medicine. When I am not working, I enjoy hiking, nature, photography, gardening, theater, scouting, and reading.
My Recommendations...
I encourage you to play an active part in your health care. The Cardiology Department and I, will support you in understanding your heart condition and doing our part to help you feel better and live a healthy life. You can help by exercising, following a heart healthy diet, and taking your medications. These things are not always easy to do, but our team has many resources to assist you in achieving your goals. I also recommend that you have a primary care physician so you can get comprehensive care for all your health needs. I hope to work closely with your primary care physician and other health providers caring for you to provide you with the best care possible.
Why I chose my specialty...
I have always been fascinated by the heart and illness related to it. After working in medical intensive care, coronary care, and trauma care, it seemed natural for me to move on to take care of the people who survived the medical conditions that landed them in the critical care units. I enjoy working with the heart failure patients and assisting them to achieve a better quality of life, whether by heart transplantation or by medical care. After heart transplant, I enjoy working with recipients to assist them in preventing further complications and living their life to the fullest.
My Philosophy of Care...
I treat all of my patients as if they were a member of my family by providing quality health care and educating patients and their families on the nature of their illness so they will have the knowledge to regain and maintain their health.
