My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a cardiologist. I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. I had always wanted to be a doctor, but a football accident resulting in a life-saving surgical procedure really motivated me to pursue this goal. I chose cardiology because it was the closest subspecialty of medicine to surgery -- due to a bad back, I could not become a surgeon.

My Practice Philosophy

I enjoy taking care of and meeting patients.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

At Kaiser Permanente, I have the freedom to use my professional skills to treat patients and not worry about the politics of medical practice.

I joined the Permanente Medical Group in 1987.

My Credentials

Medical school University of San Diego, San Diego, CA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Fellowship Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Francisco, CA
Board certification Cardiovascular Disease, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

On a Personal Note…

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family; I play tennis with my wife and practice soccer with my children. I have also rediscovered reading novels; I like Robert Ludlum and Robin Cook books.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
