My Specialty and Why I Chose It
I am a clinical psychologist in occupational medicine. This means I provide care to Kaiser Permanente members for major psychological traumas at work. I decided to do this because it provides members with a critical medical service in time of severe need.
My Practice Philosophy
I encourage my patients to empower themselves and to take decisive action that will provide them with improvement in the quality of their work life. I also provide traumatized patients who are struggling to overcome major assaults at work with the support and tools to overcome their significant challenges and to restore them to pre-injury functioning.
My Tenure With Kaiser Permanente
I've been a part of Kaiser Permanente since 1999. Over that time I have come to appreciate Kaiser Permanente’s dedication to not only improving patient care but also the professional development of providers like myself.
I have the freedom to practice psychology with much discretion that matches my personal preferences and professional strengths. I value the availability of information and innovative training that helps me stay sharp and current with the most effective assessment and treatment strategies available for work trauma.
Finally, I have the support of a dedicated and competent team of medical and psychological providers in occupational medicine and throughout the Kaiser Health Plan system.
Professional Interests & Affiliations
I received my undergraduate degree at Yale University in 1975 and my PhD in clinical psychology at UC Davis/Sacramento Medical Center in 1984. I have been a licensed psychologist in California in good standing since 1985. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, Past President of the Sacramento Valley Psychology Association (SVPA), and current President of the SVPA Forensic Psychology section. Besides my activities in occupational medicine, I have a private practice in Sacramento in which I focus on my interests in Elder Care consulting, training, and advising.
On a Personal Note
I am a first generation American, born and bred in Southern California. I moved to Northern California to attend graduate school and I have remained here in Sacramento ever since. My wife and I raised one daughter, who lives and works in San Francisco. We are an active family who enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, traveling, skiing, swimming, and yoga. We are committed to our community and are active on a range of local boards and organizations.
