About Me

I grew up in Monterey, California where my Czech immigrant parents were both teachers. I remember first developing an interest in medicine at age 12, much to the delight of my family. During my first clinical rotation at Stanford Medical School, I fell in love with diagnostic radiology and have thoroughly enjoyed practicing my specialty since becoming board-certified in 1981.

Radiology has been one of the most dynamic fields of medicine over the past several decades, largely due to rapid technological advances in computer-generated imaging. It has been exciting to witness these advances first-hand, as a practitioner in a busy clinical setting.

I chose to join Kaiser Permanente (after completing fellowship training in Boston) for numerous reasons, the most compelling of which were Kaiser's emphasis on preventive medicine and vanguard model of efficient and effective healthcare delivery. My nearly 20-year tenure with Kaiser Permanente has been extremely stimulating and satisfying.

I am very proud that the Oakland Kaiser Radiology department has grown into one of the premier radiology groups in northern California, attracting outstanding physicians from the top institutions in the country.
