My Biography

Welcome to my home page!

I am a clinical psychologist who enjoys working with a great team of talented providers. We strive to provide high quality psychiatric and C. D. services to adults, children and families. In my chemical dependency work with patients, I utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach in an effort to help patients to develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions and situations that trigger substance use. Patients can learn to use these tools as guidance in making healthier behavior choices that lower the likelihood of relapse and promote recovery.

I completed an undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology and an MA in General Psychology at California State University, Long Beach. In 2002, I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Florida State University.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2002. I completed my post doctoral work in Chemical Dependency Services in the South San Francisco Psychiatry Department in 2003. My previous experience includes psychological assessment and therapy with a diverse population of adults and children in inpatient and outpatient settings. I was able to spend my pre-doctoral psychology internship working with Native Americans at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. This is a population that I hold dear because it is part of my own cultural background. I have also worked with the chronically mentally ill, in forensic settings and provided crisis intervention.

Currently, I work in CDS with both adolescent and adults. I provide family therapy services, co-facilitate a family therapy group, and co-lead a psychoeducational group for adolescents. I also conduct a psychoeducational substance abuse group for adolescent and parents in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. My work with adults includes discussion and psychoeducational groups. One of my favorite groups is our Young Adult Group specifically for patients ages 18-26. In my time off, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, surfing, swimming, mountain biking, reading and listening to music.

Professional Education: PhD, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL

Pre-doctoral Internship: American Indian Track, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO

Board Certification: California Board of Psychology Licensed Psychologist (PSY 19749)
