About Me

Welcome to my home page. I believe you may be interested in knowing me as a person as well as a physician at Kaiser Permanente.

I grew up in a small farming village in the southern part of Korea. I enjoyed nature and frequently explored the forest near our village. Then I moved to the big city, Seoul, where I completed my undergraduate and medical school education at Yonsei University. I enjoyed playing tennis and backpacking during college.

After finishing my military duty as a medical officer in the Korean Army, I came to the United States to complete my postgraduate training in 1975. I began my internship training in general surgery at Huron Road Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Although challenging, I enjoyed and successfully completed my surgery training. However, I was very much interested in Obstetrics & Gynecology. In OB & GYN, not only could I continue my surgical practice for gynecology patients, but I could also take care of the obstetric patients as well. I believe that Obstetrics & Gynecology is a very exciting and rewarding specialty. I started my Obstetrics & Gynecology internship and resident training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1980.

I came to the Bay Area in 1981 and opened up a private practice of Obstetrics & Gynecology in Vallejo, CA. I continued the solo practice until joining Kaiser Permanente Medical Group at Oakland in 1991. I am glad to be a physician here at Kaiser Permanente because the numerous resources and support systems have allowed me to provide excellent OB & GYN care. I believe that good medicine starts with good communication with patients during the office visit as well as through the follow-up telecommunication.

I speak Korean fluently. I am married with a lovely wife and have two sons and a daughter. We enjoy skiing together during the winter season. Luckily, I still get some time to relax and play golf, which is my favorite sport.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
