My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of arthritis and reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee (i.e., joint replacements.) I love doing hip and knee replacements because this surgery can make a huge impact on a patient's quality of life.

I became a physician because I wanted to learn everything about the human body. I have always loved constructing things, building and fixing and putting things together, so when I was in medical school, I knew as I was seeing my first surgery that I had to be a surgeon. Prior to medical school, I had a professional dance career and obtained an MA in kinesiology, so my interest in biomechanics and human movement made orthopedics a perfect fit for me.

My Practice Philosophy

My goal in orthopedics is to help people improve their quality of life. I see the physician as a partner with the patient in achieving his or her health care goals. The same treatment may not be right for every patient with the same condition. I look forward to working together with you to find the best way for you to improve your state of health. I want to help you be able to take part in the activities you need and want to do, both on a day-to-day basis, and in the long term. I will take the time to educate you about your condition, treatment options, and what to expect before, during, and after an orthopedic procedure, and be sure all your questions are answered.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I've been with Kaiser Permanente since 2008. In choosing my practice, I carefully evaluated many different practice structures and sizes. I chose Kaiser Permanente because it allows me to focus my practice in an area I enjoy and in which I excel, and keeps me free of many of the headaches inherent in the business of health care. My time and energy can be focused on taking care of patients, which keeps me loving my career, and makes me a better doctor.

Additionally, I value the group of physicians in my department and throughout the organization. There are doctors here with expertise in every aspect of surgery and medicine, which allows us to work together as a team to provide you the best healthcare possible.

On a Personal Note

I came to medicine as a second career. My first love in college was the arts and I pursued a professional dance career before deciding to go to medical school; so my approach toward medicine comes from the background of an artist. I am married and I am a mom, and I try to maintain a healthy balance between my career, which I love, and my family, whom I adore. I enjoy reading, running, biking, hiking, cooking (especially eating!), traveling, music, movies, opera and the ballet.
