My Qualifications

I received my undergraduate degree from Yale University and my medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I moved to California to do my internship and residency at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose. I am board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1994. Before becoming a physician, I worked as an actuarial trainee for Prudential Insurance. I received a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry. I am on the volunteer faculty for University of California Davis.

My Healthcare Practice

I enjoy being a general internist because I am in a unique position within the medical system to get to know you as a whole person.

My foremost emphasis is providing good access to all my patients. I strongly believe that having access to your physician is a very integral part of getting good care. I do my best to be an attentive listener.

I chose the field of internal medicine because I enjoy the diversity of work. It stimulates my mind to think about different problems.

Besides English, I am fluent in Korean and I can also speak some Japanese, French and Spanish.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente

I believe that the primary care physician is the most important link between our patients and our medical system. Being such a link enables me to have opportunities to help people in the most effective way.

My Outside Interests

When I am not working, I stay active with bicycling, running, or walking. On the not-so-physical side, I do enjoy a good game of chess. I also enjoy learning different languages - doing so broadens my cultural horizon and enables me to help people from different backgrounds. I am a part-time teacher for a Korean school where I teach Math and English.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
