My Practice Philosophy
I think that patients are healthiest when they are in charge of their health care. I like to educate patients so they can make informed decisions about their health. I have a holistic approach to the body and to medicine, understanding that what is going on in their lives will make a huge impact on the heath of a patient. I know that a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, stress reduction, healthy eating, and regular check ups can prevent or reverse many health problems. I also practice what I preach and people will probably see me at the gym or eating a healthy snack at my desk!
I love the opportunity to make an impact on my patients’ lives. My role may be as simple as encouraging them to exercise more, to remember to take their calcium, or just making them feel healthy because they are up-to-date on their pap smear. It can also be more significant, as in times of crisis or when they need a surgery. I feel great satisfaction knowing I have hopefully touched their lives in a positive way.
I love how well we work together at Kaiser Permanente! I began practicing medicine in 2000 and have worked in many settings, and when I started at Kaiser Permanente I knew it was the right situation for me. With our advanced electronic records, I’m able to focus on the patient and get the information I need quickly. I don’t have to hassle with getting information from hospital visits, radiology, or consultants, because it's right at my computer. I also am able to call or email colleagues to aid in patient care. I know I am part of a great group that is focused on providing quality patient care.
I have a clinical interest in contraception, minimally invasive surgery, menopause, teen care, and health prevention.
About Me
As a little girl I used to follow my dad around at work on my days off from school. He is an Ear, Nose and Throat physician. I would play with all of his instruments, watch him during the exams, and go see patients in the hospital. I was always interested in what problem brought them to see my father and what he was doing to help them. In school I was interested in science and the how the body worked. When I started thinking about becoming a physician, I asked my father if he had been happy with his choice. He said that every day he learned something, every day was a challenge, and every day he had the opportunity to make a difference in his patients’ lives. That is all I could ask for in a career, so I decided that medicine was where I belonged.
On a personal note, when I’m not working, I love to travel, hike, kayak, read fiction, and spend time with my friends and family.
Other Languages
I speak Spanish and some Dutch.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
