“My practice philosophy entails 1) providing quality health care, 2) treating my patients as if they were my own family, and 3) educating patients on the nature of their illness so they may be well equipped to regain or preserve their health.”
Dr. Hemal H. Parekh was born in India but has lived in the U.S. for most of her life. She was a history major at Duke University (home of the Blue Devils and Coach K). She went back to Ohio, where her family is, for her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati and then to University of Alabama at Birmingham for internal medicine. For her cardiology fellowship, she went to the University of Maryland. Dr. Parekh then moved to California for a fellowship in heart failure/heart transplant at Stanford University. She joined the staff at Kaiser Santa Teresa in 1999. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology as well as UNOS certified in Cardiac Transplant.
Her professional interests include staying informed of new technology and treatment recommendations. During her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, theater, movies, tennis, Duke Basketball, nature, cooking, and history/politics. She also has two cats that like sunny weather as much as she does.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
