My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am an Internal Medicine doctor. This means I work as a primary care doctor for people over the age of 16. I chose this as my specialty because of the wide variety of patients and medical problems I get to see. As an internist, I take pride in being able to manage limited problems, such as a sprained ankle, to chronic and serious conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. It also important to me to be able to establish a relationship with patients, following through their lifespan, helping them to meet the health challenges that each stage in life brings with it.

My Credentials

Medical school George Washington University, Washington, DC
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy is to create a patient-doctor relationship based on open communication, mutual trust and respect. I believe it is important for patients to feel comfortable with their doctor so they can honestly and openly communicate about their health.

The primary goal in my practice is to help educate my patients and involve them in their health decisions. I consider myself not only to be a health consultant, but a teacher and coach as well. My job is to not only provide answers to you about how to best treat your problem but also empower you do it.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2006.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Having done some training at Kaiser during my residency, I knew I wanted to work for Kaiser Permanente. At Kaiser Permanente, there are plenty of knowledgeable specialists for me to consult with, an emphasis on preventative health, and most importantly, an environment where I have the freedom to practice medicine the way I feel best helps patients. I like that Kaiser Permanente provides support for their patients in many ways and is committed to educating patients about their health. Finally, I support Kaiser's commitment to science and evidence-based medicine.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am a member of the American Medical Association and American College of Physicians

On a Personal Note

I am a California native, growing up in the rural countryside north of Santa Cruz. Although I enjoyed being an undergraduate at Earlham College in Indiana and going to medical school in Washington, DC, I always knew that I wanted to come back to California to practice medicine and raise my family. In addition to being near my extended family, I love the landscape and all the outdoor opportunities that California offers. I have always been physically active playing basketball and track in high school and college. My husband and I are enthusiastic hikers, campers and rock climbers. I also enjoy occasional snowboarding and kayaking. Most of my time is spent with my family including my husband, our daughter, and our hyperactive, Frisbee-loving dog, Cash. In my spare time I enjoy reading novels and taking on various projects, from gardening to knitting to training for the next 10K run.
