My Qualifications

After graduating from Punjabi University Medical school in India I migrated to Philadelphia. I completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a subspeciality fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine at Temple University School of Medicine and its affiliates. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1979 and have practiced as a pulmonary/critical care staff physician since then. The challenge of a demanding practice has been balanced by the pleasure of working with a highly-qualified and compassionate team of associates in the group.

I serve as a medical director of the respiratory therapy department and the pulmonary rehab program in Sacramento and Roseville. I am a clinical professor of medicine at University of California Davis School of Medicine and have been actively involved in the teaching and supervision of medical students and residents. I am also a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. While I have a special interest in pulmonary rehab and sleep medicine, I find a great professional satisfaction in taking care of critically ill patients.

My Credentials

Medical school Government Medical College, Patiala, Punjab, India
Residency Episcopal Hospital, Philadelphia, PA
Fellowship Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Pulmonary Disease, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Critical Care Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Healthcare Practice

The reason I went into my particular field of medicine is because I enjoy working with critically ill patients. I believe in building a relationship with my patients based on faith and trust and not merely on an exchange of service. Unfortunately, most lung diseases are more preventable and treatable, with only a few curable. I believe patients must take some responsibility for their health care and start with quitting smoking as a first step - Smoking - Call It Quits!. Tobacco kills more Americans each year than alcohol, coccaine, crack, heroin, car accidents, homicide, suicides, fires and AIDS combined (US Department of Health and Human Services).

How to Reach Me

Since part of my practice involves taking care of inpatients and intensive care patients in Sacramento and Roseville, I am not in the office at all times. My experienced staff can assist you at (916) 973-7618 from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm with most of your needs and take a message. I make every effort to return your call within the same business day.

My Outside Interests

In my spare time, I like traveling, gardening, and skiing or simply spending quality time with my wonderful family. I enjoy Indian music and speak Punjabi and Hindi fluently, in addition to English.

While my turban signifies my faith in Sikhism, I am intrigued by, respect, and enjoy learning about other cultures.
