About Me

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the time, there was an NBA basketball team there called the Cincinnati Royals; now they are the Sacramento Kings!

I graduated from Boston College. While a student, I worked part-time and summer jobs as a cab driver; a summer mail carrier; a cafeteria cook; a janitor; and a hospital orderly. I decided to go into medicine after working as a hospital orderly.

After 5 years in private practice, I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1986 in Roseville. In addition to my duties as a Hospital Based Physician here at Kaiser Permanente, I am an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. I am also a former Quality Assurance Chairman for Outpatient Internal Medicine.

I am a member of The American College of Physicians; the California Medical Association, and the Placer-Nevada County Medical Society.

I have a special medical interest in colon cancer- having lost several relatives, including a younger sister, to this disease. I also have a daughter who has Autism and spend a great deal of time searching for ways to make her future better.

My Healthcare Practice

After medical school, I did a residency in Internal Medicine. I chose Internal Medicine because we treat the whole person. I think this is the best way to be able to practice holistic medicine. Over the 18 years I have been at Kaiser Permanente, I found that I enjoy inpatient hospital care the most; I am now am in the hospital full-time.

I have always found that being a good listener is most important. When I trained in Internal Medicine, we were known as "diagnosticians". I still look at my work as being a detective—getting to the cause for someone’s illness.

Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

There are many reasons why I like practicing medicine at Kaiser Permanente. After all, I’ve been at Kaiser Permanente 18 years. But it really boils down to the people here. They are a great group of talented and skilled people, committed to giving the best medical care possible.

My Outside Interests

When I’m not working I enjoy gardening and travel.
