About Me

My life began in a small town of Holland, Michigan, but with a big family of two parents and eight siblings. It was in these spaces that I learned to appreciate community and collaboration; those things that make us the same, yet underscore our differences. This provided the groundwork for my interest in medicine because it was a profession where collegiality is essential and individualism is rewarded, and where a contribution made usually has great impact.

Women's health and life issues - the babies, the hormones, the tumors, the prolapse - were always most fascinating and compelling to me, so choosing a specialty was easy. Of all the facets in this specialty, I most enjoy the surgical aspects. It is satisfying to both "fix" something surgically, and at the same time improve a patient's quality of life.

The Kaiser Permanente infrastructure is the best of both big and small worlds for me. I have supportive and capable multi-disciplinary colleagues and a system that enables me to simply practice the best care.

When I am not at work, I enjoy adventures in the outdoors and travel to cultures unlike my own.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
