Welcome to My Internet Home Page

I am Dr. Gerald A. Santos and I am a hospitalist in the Manteca Medical Center. I was born and raised in Metro Manila, Philippines. I received my medical degree at the University of the East Medical Center, Quezon City, Philippines and completed my residency in Internal Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, NY.

I chose to become a doctor because I like to help and comfort people. It gives me great joy and satisfaction to see my patients get well and go back to their previous level of functioning or even have a significant improvement in their quality of lives.

My medical interests include all aspects of general medicine. This is the major reason why I decided to follow a career in hospital-based medicine. Being a hospitalist gives me the opportunity to be exposed to a wide array of medical problems from different patients.

It was not a difficult decision for me in joining Kaiser Permanente. The medical staff here are warm and friendly. Moreover, the working atmosphere is very pleasant yet professional at the same time. What also attracted me to this organization were the excellent benefits being offered to the physicians and their families. Of course, the Central Valley is an excellent place to stay with its beautiful weather, people and diversity. I can also be close to my relatives here in California. I am very much excited to face a new challenge in my medical career with quite a drastic change of environment compared to NY and I am looking forward to serve in this community.

When I am not at work, I like to play sports especially basketball and table tennis. Being a sports fan, I also love going to ball games and cheering my heart out for the local teams. Or I just simply relax and listen to a variety of musical genre from classical to popular to alternative and to heavy metal. Besides English, I am also fluent in Tagalog.

My Philosophy of Care

It is a huge responsibility to be entrusted with the life of another human being. As such, I am committed to provide care to my patients to the best of my abilities. It is also my belief that the patients themselves play a big role in their path to recovery. Thus, I want to involve my patients as much as possible in every step of their course in the hospital by getting them well-informed about their condition and progress as well as presenting to them the available diagnostic tests, treatment and management. Being admitted to the hospital is not the best of experiences for a patient. But with good rapport, compassion and dedication, a therapeutic alliance between a doctor and a patient is very much attainable. Not only does this make the hospital experience more bearable if not pleasant but it also facilitates the healing process. This is exactly my goal for every patient.

Thank you for visiting my home page. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
