WELCOME TO MY HOME PAGE

Although I spent 23 years as an Active Duty Air Force physician, all of my training after medical school was in northern California. After retiring from the Air Force I spent 4 years in Atlanta teaching medical students and young physicians. We returned to California in 1997 to be near our children and grandchildren. I have been with Kaiser since 1999. It has been a very comfortable fit for me. I particularly appreciate not having to worry whether an insurance company is going to question the tests I order or the treatments I feel are necessary. I remain active in teaching medical students and young physicians as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California at Davis medical school. When not working at Kaiser I may be travelling and/or teaching. My wife, an RN, and I volunteer with the Sacramento County clinic system each month, for Health Volunteers Overseas (St Lucia in 2000 and 2003 and Peru in Jan 2004) and with the Flying Samaritans (we go to Baja Mexico two weekends a year to give free healthcare to people in San Quintin). I also make regular trips to Japan, usually for a month at a time, to teach Japanese medical students and doctors (in English). My special interests in gastroenterology include diseases of the esophagus, especially eosinophilic esophagitis, unusual causes of abdominal pain (such as abdominal wall pain), and cyclic vomiting syndrome.

My Qualifications

I joined the Permanente Medical Group in 1999.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
