About My Specialty

A physician practicing Internal Medicine handles all aspects of adult medicine both in the medical clinic as well as in the hospital setting. The physician must have an in-depth knowledge of all the disciplines of medicine. It is both intellectually stimulating and challenging at the same time. The physician gets to treat the whole patient, and usually ends up treating all or part of the immediate and extended family.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham, AL
Internship University of Cincinnati Hospital, Cincinnati, OH
Residency University of Cincinnati Hospital, Cincinnati, OH
Fellowship Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

I believe in a mutual dialogue with patients, with the physician as the source of knowledge to help the patient achieve their health care goals. This couples with the judicious use of medicines both to achieve and maintain those goals.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

After being in private practice for over 28 years, I joined Kaiser because it is the leader in integrated health care systems. It encourages and helps achieve best practice methods and evidence-based medicine. All of the physicians, nurses, technicians, administrators, and ancillary personnel work together toward the same goal of providing quality, comprehensive medical care to all the members of Kaiser Permanente.

On a Personal Note…

I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Tulane University on a baseball scholarship. It was at that institution that I met my wife of 39 years. I have two grown children who are happy and successful in their own lives. My hobbies are running, golf, wine collecting to a modest degree, and travel.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
